Alaska has very important history, this is just some of it. Alaska had many Native American tribes including the Northwest Coast Indians, Yupiks and the Aleuts.

A long time ago there was a land bridge that connected Alaska and Siberia, this is how people got from Siberia to Alaska. The first people to settle in Alaska were Russian whalers and fur traders.

Eventually a population boost to Alaska came with the Klondike Gold Rush. The Klondike Gold Rush got its name because it was in the Klondike region. The Gold Rush drew people from all over the world to pan and mine for gold.

Did you know that over 100,000 people came with hopes "to strike it rich"?  Only 30,000 were successful in this long journey to get gold from the mountains.

Alaska became a state on March 30,1867. It was the 49th state to join the US. The US  bought Alaska for $7.2 million. The purchase was negotiated by the Secretary of State William Seward. That is a very little amount of money to buy a state. This is just some of Alaska's history.
